Quality improvements
for Australia must not decrease quality in NSW!
Community Child Care Co-operative
has concerns about two changes that will affect NSW children’s
services from 2012 under the National Quality Framework. We believe these
undermine the improvements to ratios contained in the Framework
for children in NSW.
We ask for your support in overturning these two
measures contained in the framework:
1. Under 18 year olds being counted
as primary contact staff; and
2. The calculation of ratios in mixed age groups. These allow a group
of 8 children including a baby to be cared for by one educator.
This is not in the best interests of children or what COAG was trying
to achieve through quality reforms in childcare services. |
Send
an e-mail
to Kate Ellis
By watering down the ratios requirements the National Quality Standard undermines the quality improvements COAG were seeking to achieve through the Standard.
Please take a moment to share your thoughts with Minister for Early Childhood
Education, Childcare and Youth, Kate Ellis. Tell her that allowing educators
under 18 to be counted for the purpose of ratios and allowing ratios for
mixed age groups to be calculated on a proportional basis undermines the
good work COAG has done to improve the quality of childcare in Australia. |

an e-mail to Linda Burney and Kristina Keneally as well
The National Quality Standard’s treatment of ratios undermines the NSW Government’s commitment to a 1:4 ratio for babies.
Please take a moment to share your thoughts with Minister for Community Services, Linda Burney and the NSW Premier, Kristina Keneally to let them know that the that allowing educators under 18 to be counted for the purpose of ratios and allowing ratios for mixed age groups to be calculated on a proportional basis undermines their commitment to 1:4. |
